01 / CONTEXT & INSPIRATION

This 3D character model is a female dancer created for the research project 'Audition: Rhythm Queen that Shaped Vietnamese Youth Culture.' It serves as visual 'living proof' of Audition Online’s influence on Vietnamese youth fashion and identity from the 2000s–2010s, styled directly from iconic Audition Fashion Week looks.

The character has short purple tomboy-style hair and wears a black beret. Her outfit follows the Y2K aesthetic popular in the game and features a pink crop top, short dark pleated mini-skirt, pink thigh-high leg warmers, chunky platform shoes, and matching gloves. All clothing pieces were modeled with realistic fabric folds and wrinkles to support proper deformation during animation.

Textures were deliberately created with an intentional old-school look. Although the 3D mesh is detailed, the texture maps use softer colors, slight imperfections, and a retro low-fi style to match the early Audition Online visual feel.

Animations were created using direct references from the original game’s dance moves and idle poses. One additional dance animation was made by referencing the music video 'Ngọt Ngào' by Vietnamese artist Đông Nhi.

Artistic Motivation: Created for the academic research project 'Audition: Rhythm Queen that Shaped Vietnamese Youth Culture'. Serving as visual 'living proof' of Audition Online's deep influence on Vietnamese youth fashion and identity from the 2000s–2010s, styled directly from iconic Audition Fashion Week looks.

Phase 01

Iconic Y2K Wardrobe & Character Styling

Styling the character directly from iconic Audition Fashion Week looks, translating nostalgic Y2K youth fashion archives into a distinctive 3D character silhouette.

Signature purple tomboy-style short hair paired with an iconic black beret/Y2K game fashion: pink crop top and short dark pleated mini-skirt/Classic accessories: pink thigh-high leg warmers, chunky platform shoes, and matching gloves
Phase 02

3D Modeling & Fabric Deformation Engineering

Constructing the detailed character geometry and garments in Blender with specific emphasis on cloth dynamics, wrinkles, and clean joint deformation.

Modeling realistic fabric folds and natural tension wrinkles into every clothing garment/Designing clean edge-loop quad topology to ensure proper deformation during dynamic movements/Balancing mesh resolution to maintain silhouette fidelity while enabling fluid dance motion
Phase 03

Intentional Old-School & Retro Low-Fi Texturing

Deliberately authoring surface textures with an authentic vintage aesthetic to match the cherished early Audition Online visual atmosphere.

Pairing a detailed 3D mesh with softer color palettes and nostalgic low-fi surface texturing/Incorporating subtle hand-crafted imperfections and nostalgic gaming aesthetic cues/Faithfully honoring mid-2000s MMORPG nostalgia without relying on generic hyper-realistic materials
Phase 04

In-Game Moves & Đông Nhi 'Ngọt Ngào' Animation

Rigging and choreographing keyframe dance animations referenced from classic game routines and iconic Vietnamese pop music history.

Direct animation references from original Audition Online dance moves and classic idle poses/Custom full-body choreography created by referencing the music video 'Ngọt Ngào' by Vietnamese artist Đông Nhi/Fine-tuning keyframe timing to preserve the energetic rhythm and iconic bounce of Vietnam's dance-game golden era
